Lifetime achievement award for DRM Chairman Peter Senger

Chairman of Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM), Peter Senger, has received alifetime achievement award at a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur.The presentation came at the opening of the ABU Digital BroadcastingSymposium, a four-day event that has brought together more than 300 people.DRM is a worldwide consortium for the development of a global standard fordigital radio transmission in the lower frequency bands. Mr Senger has beenits chairman since 1998 and retires from the position next month.Presenting the award on behalf of the ABU, Adilah Shek Omar of RadioTelevision Malaysia said the DRM system had the potential to bring about arevolution in radio broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific region.Mr Senger said the DRM consortium had more than 100 members around theworld, and it was they who deserved to be honoured.The ABU symposium is the fourth in a series of annual conferences on digitalbroadcasting. This year's theme is "Progression to Digital and MobileServices".In a keynote address, Kamil A Grajski, President of the FLO Forum and VicePresident Engineering, Qualcomm, said mobile broadcasting as a technologywas not simply about mobile TV. There were many other possible services,including datacasting and the low-cost delivery of important information.Monday 10 Mar 2008
